Gluten-free written in flour on table

Gluten is  a protein found in most grains (wheat, barley, rye, etc.). Since it is found in most grains, it is therefore also found in flour. For this reason, many people mistakenly think that people with gluten intolerance should refrain from eating all kinds of grains.

However, some grains are well suited to a gluten-free diet,  as they do not contain gluten. These include:

  • Rice
  • Buckwheat
  • Amaranth
  • Quinoa
  • Corn
  • Millet
  • Oats
  • Teff

People with gluten intolerance can enjoy these foods. However, we must keep in mind that many other foods may contain gluten,  either as a primary ingredient or by infection during processing. These include:

  • Beer
  • Pasta
  • Saucer
  • Concentrated broth
